My potter husband, Hugh West
on Thursday, March 6 2008 - These I Love
We have known each other since I went to work for Hugh at his pottery near Truro in Cornwall in February 1989 and I have never lost the fascination of watching him throwing.

Nowadays he makes smaller pots than formerly since he suffers from tendonitis in his shoulders. Fortunately, he loves working with porcelain, especially in winter when cooler air gives a longer time gap between throwing and trimming: porcelain pots dry quickly and can be lost in a matter of hours.
Hugh uses Southern Ice porcelain from Australia to make his delicate individual bowls and vases.
Today he has weighed out balls of 300g for each bowl.
They are thrown and shaped on the wheel and left until dry enough to trim. This may be later this evening or early tomorrow morning.
